At GetOn, we have noticed that the internet is making people increasingly lonely. We want to change that! Our app allows people to connect online, meet offline and form new friendships.
Similar apps already exist – but we believe the experience can be simpler, better and more intuitive. GetOn does away with unnecessary bells and whistles and offers exactly what you need: user profiles, a feed with MeetUps near you and a chat where you can talk and make plans.
We have created the following guidelines to ensure a safe, respectful and enjoyable environment on GetOn.
How GetOn works
Create a MeetUp with an activity, a location and a time. Users near you can see your MeetUp in their feed and send a request to join. As the admin, you decide who can participate. You can then chat in a shared group chat and plan your MeetUp. Of course, you can also discover MeetUps near you, send requests to join and meet new people.
After signing up, you provide some basic information, such as your name, gender and date of birth. To create or join a MeetUp, you must also upload at least one profile picture. Profiles help participants know who they are meeting. Only share information you are comfortable showing to other users, and respect the privacy and boundaries of everyone involved.
Who GetOn is for
GetOn is for people who want to meet others nearby for shared activities, hobbies and genuine social contact. Everyone is welcome, regardless of origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, disability / impairment or other personal characteristics.
GetOn is not a dating app. Treat others respectfully, respect their personal boundaries and help create an environment in which everyone feels safe.
What is not allowed
The following content and behavior are prohibited on GetOn:
Nudity and sexual content
No nudity, pornography, sexual acts, sexually explicit messages or unwanted sexual advances.
Graphic violence
No depictions, threats or glorification of severe violence, serious injuries, cruelty or self-harm.
Insults and harassment
No bullying, intimidation, stalking, repeated unwanted contact, humiliation, threats or disclosure of another person's private information.
Hate speech
No attacks, degradation or calls for exclusion or violence based on protected personal characteristics.
Fake profiles, fraud and spam
Do not impersonate others, misrepresent your identity, deceive users for money or data, send unsolicited advertising or post repetitive and misleading content.
Illegal activities
Do not offer, request, organize or promote illegal goods, services or activities. This includes drugs, weapons, theft, exploitation and other criminal conduct.
Advertising
Advertising is not permitted on GetOn. Profiles, MeetUps, chats and other content promoting products, services, businesses, commercial events or external platforms will be blocked.
Dangerous or privacy-infringing behavior
Do not endanger others, encourage hazardous challenges, or publish personal data or recordings of other people without permission.
Protection of children and young people
GetOn does not tolerate any content or behavior that promotes, depicts or facilitates the sexual abuse or sexual exploitation of children. This includes, in particular, child sexual abuse material, grooming, sexual extortion and human trafficking. Such content will be removed, user accounts suspended and, where necessary, reported to the competent authorities.
How we handle violations
You can report suspicious profiles using the three dots in the top-right corner of the relevant user profile. To report a MeetUp, select the three dots on the MeetUp details screen. Individual messages or chats cannot be reported separately. If you report a user profile because of misconduct in a chat, please refer as precisely as possible to the relevant chat in your report. Alternatively, you can email us directly at info@get-on.app. Always tell us exactly what or whom you want to report and why.
- Review: We examine reports and available context. We may temporarily limit content or accounts while reviewing a serious safety concern.
- Action: Depending on severity, context and prior violations, we may remove content, issue a warning, restrict features, remove someone from a MeetUp, or temporarily or permanently suspend an account.
- Escalation: For serious or potentially illegal conduct, we may preserve relevant information and contact law enforcement or other competent authorities where legally required or permitted.
We may act immediately in severe cases. Attempts to evade an enforcement action through another account may result in that account being suspended as well.
Safety at in-person MeetUps
Meet in a public place when possible, tell someone you trust about your plans, arrange your own way home and leave if you feel uncomfortable. In an immediate emergency, contact the local emergency services first.
